Pink Starfish

Who knew there would be a place like this only 2 hours away from Manhattan?

That’s the quote underneath thiago1029′s Youtube video, Road Trip to Greenport, NY, and I can’t help noticing that only 520 people have discovered this little slice of paradise since the video was first posted 16 months ago, whereas over half a million now know Greenport for not being very good at stage scenery. Both tales are charming and the videos make us smile, but only one tale leaves us with the taste of summer, and puppies, love, friendship, good health, good food and eye candy, and that’s this one!

And the pink starfish? “Where these guys are swimming on the Long Island Sound, a little further out from the shore, just a little, there’s a sandbar, and if you look down, all you see is pink. There is a beautiful line of starfish as far as the eye can see. Glad you strangers had fun. : )” said CreativeChic8, obviously a local. Ahh, the secrets of the undiscovered North Fork, can’t WAIT for summer.

The Romantics Movie Premier at Sundance

In only a few shorts hours the North Fork will be revealed to Sundance 2010 audiences as the film premier screens at around 9am Friday January 29th. All the filming took place on the North Fork of Long Island, in mainly in Southold and Greenport, small towns in Northeastern USA that take your breath away with the fresh air. It’s barely 6 weeks since the “The Romantics” movie film crew finally rolled out of Town. At what must have been breakneck editing speed, it was accepted for Sundance Festival, where it’s already 3 stars on the audience buzz meter before a single screening or review. All the signs are good for this Premier, which can only be a good thing for the East End.

Seven close friends—all members of a tight, eclectic college clique—reconvene at a deluxe seaside wedding to watch two of their own tie the knot. Lila is the golden girl preparing for her dream wedding, and Laura is Lila’s maid of honor. Once college roommates, Laura and Lila have been best friends since their first meeting on campus, but Lila’s groom, Tom, is the man they have long rivaled over. Promiscuity and hi-jinks abound as the drunken friends frolic in the nearby surf and revel in the nostalgic haze of their glory days.

Producer-turned-director Galt Niederhoffer adapts her own novel of the same name in this audacious first feature. With an outstanding ensemble cast, The Romantics is both a Zeitgeist love story and generational comedy that breathes new life into the genre and recaptures the camaraderie of youth.

MOVE YOUR MONEY

Click here to find our community banks that have received a grade of “B” or above.

The Story

JUST BEFORE CHRISTMAS, a few friends were having dinner wondering what personal actions they could take to help limit the power of the big banks and create a more sane, stable financial system. How, they wondered, could they help end the era of Too Big To Fail? The financier at the table recommended that everyone could move their money out of the Wall Street banks and into community banks. Community banks are typically more conservative about how they manage their money, they’re more closely connected to the people and businesses who live near them, and they’re more inclined to make loans they know will get paid back. In other words, they have the values that more people would want banks to have.

The filmmaker at the table reminded the others of the story told in the classic film It’s A Wonderful Life — a tale about a small banker, played by Jimmy Stewart, who almost gets crushed by a big banker. In the end, though, the community rallies around the small bank and helps save it.

Three days later, the filmmaker made a short video, displayed on this site. The editor, Arianna Huffington, wrote a commentary about the idea. And others started pulling various resources together. The Move Your Money Project website site was set up as a modest home for the effort. A seed. But the idea will only have an impact if others take it from here.

How? For starters, you could move your money to a small bank. To do so, go to www.MoveYourMoney.info and click on the button that says Find A Bank. But there are dozens of other possibilities: You can get your friends or organizations to do the same. You can use your online social networks to help broadcast the idea. You can look into where your town government keeps its money and, if it uses a big bank, you could try to get it to use a smaller bank. Start your own website (to improve upon or replace this one), dive into the research about smaller banks, and help give rise to a bigger, broader effort.

There is no official organization there. It’s a volunteer project. If you have ideas about how this idea can grow, send them a note and we’ll display the best ideas in the Updates section of the site.

We hope this idea will spread in a thousand different ways.

Thanks for whatever you can do.

The Romantics in Southold

Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Anna Paquin play former college friends caught in a love triangle on their wedding weekend in ‘The Romantics,’ and only ET’s Kevin Frazier has the dish on how this ‘Big Chill’-style ensemble is keeping themselves entertained while filming on location in sleepy Southold, NY.

“We’re in this small town and we get to hang out together; it’s wonderful to be with actors and just create,” says Katie, who has daughter Suri with her while filming: “She brings a very special sparkle to the set.”

Katie, Josh Duhamel, Anna Paquin, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody, Malin Akerman, Jeremy Strong, Rebecca Lawrence, Dianna Agron and Candice Bergen just left Town. Here for the last several weeks filming “The Romantics” movie, sometimes they would enjoy hanging out at The Frisky Oyster, and they’ve often been seen grabbing a coffee in Starbucks in Greenport.

Josh describes his take on the movie in the ET Interview posted below: “It’s about these eight friends who get together after years, and we’re here for a wedding, and I’m somebody who’s a little conflicted, I guess, whether or not I should go through with it.” Katie adds, “It’s one of those weekends where friends get together and everything comes out.”Candice Bergen also stars in the film, and she beams, “I’m having such a good time with them because they’re all great. There’s not a bad apple in the bunch, which is rare.”

They certainly look relaxed at the interview on the set, and having fun in this clip from the Rehearsal Dinner at Southold Yacht Club.

Last chance to Seal the Merliance

lima-logo

Here’s something constructive to do on this rainy weekend. A COMPETITION to Design the Seal for the Long Island Merlot Alliance (LIMA). The winning design will serve as the official seal, be featured as part of a new label for Merliance, the group’s private label 100% merlot blend, starting with the 2007 vintage, and will be prominently displayed on the Alliance website and other promotional materials to represent the group. The winner will receive $250 and (if over 21), a case (12 bottles) of the just-released 2006 vintage Merliance. The seal will belong to LIMA

Design contest specifications
· What: An official seal (circular emblem) that represents the Long Island Merlot Alliance, such as our mission (to promote merlot as the premier grape of Long Island), who we are (five founding wineries) and location (the East End of Long Island). See the website here  for source material.
· Usage: The winning design will be incorporated as part of a new Merliance label, which will debut on the 2007 vintage. It also will be used on the website of the Long Island Merlot Alliance, on the group’s press releases, and in other promotional materials.
· Physical size: The finished seal will need to be reproducible (while still legible) in a size as small as 1″ in diameter.
· File format: Entries must be made in electronic format only. No hard copies, please. Acceptable formats include: .jpg, .gif and .tif. Resolution must be at least 300 dpi.
· Submission process: Email entries to info@longislandmerlot.com. All entries will be acknowledged by reply email.

But hurry up! Entry deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2009! No late entries will be considered! They only sent us the press release at 3pm today, just over 48 hours before submission deadline. That’s quite a challenge to produce a QUALITY design in the time! The winner will be announced on July 1, 2009 and the winning design will become the property of the Long Island Merlot Alliance. To learn more about the Long Island Merlot Alliance and their private-label merlot, visit the website here.

We’d love to post your entries here, so AFTER you have submitted to the competition, please send a copy of your image to info@eastendbuzz.com, or add a comment below with a link to the website page where it can be viewed
